About This Event
This course explores the relationship between the “mechanical arts” and spiritual formation in Scripture and the Christian tradition, with special interest in medieval and early modern developments. In addition to surveying each of the mechanical arts in Scripture and theology (fabric making, armament, commerce, agriculture, hunting, medicine, and theatrics), we will relate this tradition to the “liberal” arts, contemporary interest in the trades and in vocation, and to the intersection of theological anthropology and the resources of wisdom.
